Inching towards the edge of discovery: Chandrayaan 2

This time its not just about landing, its about staying.

What are we digging with Chandrayaan 2 mission?

Chandrayaan 2 being the second most Indian lunar mission that will boldly explore a different part of the Moon where no country has gone before. ISRO aims to discover unknown region that might show future possibilities for any type of benefit. Discovery of the whole new part might lead to certain possibilities or may show a new side of the space?! Will this make any difference to new generations of scientists or might stop the idea of exploring the spaces on Moon?

Giving it a deeper thought, the space is filled with numerous possibilities making heads spin while non- astrologists assume it to be in a certain way. Going back to the Moon, the history of Moon’s evolution from Earth has been known by less as the undiscovered south pole that stays in the shadow has a lot to say about its large amount of water deposits found from the study by Chandrayaan 1.

The Mysterious birth of the Moon;

Starting with the vexing question, where did the Moon come from? There have been many theories about the Moon’s origins. One says about it being a part of the Earth, later cast off by the rapid spin of the planet. Different side of the story says an object spinning in the space that was captured by the Earth’s gravity. And to say more the moon formed right along side the Earth. What can be the truth? Not going deeper in this thought.

What led to Chandrayaan 2?

This goes back to 2008, when ISRO launched Chandrayaan 1 and struck into the south pole in a controlled manner. This reversely helped ejecting sub-surface soil that could be analysed for the presence of lunar water ice that found in that part of the Moon. Chandrayaan 1 soon stopped its signals leading to its failure; shortly later Chandrayaan 2 mission plan was announced.

Why has Chandrayaan 2 been planning to explore the lunar south pole?

Streaming back to its evolution from Earth and the components that match to the Earth’s, the cold traps, fossil records have interestingly captured the essence of survival possibility. Chandrayaan 2 will use the Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover to attempt a soft landing in a high plain between two Craters.

Kudos to team #ISRO for making this mission possible till now. Having a life beyond earth has always been an imagery subject. Building and executing a fourteen storey mission can be handful. The idea of Staying can bring many more outcomes to India and other research plants as whole. Additionally, a big thanks to ISRO for providing and raising the bar for our informative facilities so far.

The Chandrayaan 2 was scheduled to be launched on 15thof July at 2:51 IST. Sadly, the launch has been delayed till the end of July as the last minute glitch was discovered.

“There was a helium leak from the propellant team. The problem has now been discovered.A nipple joint valve in the plumbing malfunctioned. This can be repaired on the launch pad and there will be no need for disassembling the launch vehicle”, an ex-scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), who is still involved with the project, said on condition of anonymity.
